With the sustainability movement in eyewear gathering momentum, Continental Eyewear will present the latest Cameo Sustain collection at the London event. The 13-strong collection is made from recycled plastic bottles and encompasses styles for both men and women in smoky, frosty and milky effect colours to represent environmental components such as sea glass and washed-up plastic. Each frame uses approximately four bottles, and the company estimates that over 15,500 bottles have been used to make the collection.

But the principles behind Cameo Sustain go deeper than just the frame. Packaging protection is made from a biodegradable polymer that breaks down naturally into carbon dioxide and biomass. In addition, biodegradable dummy lenses help tackle the 4,000 tons of clear lens waste generated by the eyewear industry every year.

The British supplier Framed will be showing collections from three of its brands, Laibach & York, Portrait Eyewear and house brand Booth & Bruce. Hailing from, and produced in Slovenia, Laibach & York takes a bold approach to shapes and colours, with limited edition acetates – which have included toilet paper laminations as a nod to the toilet paper shortages at the beginning of the pandemic. This humorous brand will make its UK debut at the event.

Also being presented for the first time in the UK, Portrait Eyewear’s frames are inspired by artists in fine, modern and abstract art movements. Framed Eyewear says the brand’s adventurous manufacturing and design is perfectly placed for the growing trend for bold and brave eyewear in the UK.

The new Minamoto brand from Charmant represents more than a passing nod to the company’s roots and Japanese craftsmanship. Meaning ‘origin’ in Japanese, Minamoto comprises values of authenticity, comfort, quality, eyewear craftsmanship, attention to detail and finesse. The logo, a Japanese kanji, is handmade by a calligraphy master working for the group. It also means ‘the origin’ and appears on the titanium end tips as a signature of the brand.

Minamoto frames are constructed from 99.4% pure Japanese titanium – widely regarded as the best on the market. For additional comfort and strength, temples are made from Japanese beta titanium, while details like nose pads and nose tips are pure titanium.

Pan-European ophthalmic specialty pharmaceutical company Visufarma will be in London promoting its recently launched Xailin eye health range, which is preservative and phosphate free. The three-product range is said to offer an enhanced, customised solution suitable for every individual by combining lubricating and moisturising eye drops with varying concentrations of sodium hyaluronate to suit the severity of the dry eye condition in each patient. The company will also be discussing its patient focused resource hub, Dry Eye and Me, and will be exhibiting its wider portfolio of products across dry eye, eyelid hygiene, meibomian gland dysfunction, blepharitis, retinal health, food supplements and glaucoma. Show exclusive discounts are available.

Occuity says visitors to 100% Optical can get their hands on a revolutionary device in the Occuity PM1, which is billed as the world’s first handheld, non-contact, optical pachymeter. Using the device avoids the need to anaesthetise or touch the eye, which means there are no consumables and the risk of infection transmission is removed. The company states that this makes the process more comfortable, safer and quicker for both the operator and patient.

With its portable design, the Occuity PM1 is said to be the ideal system to partner handheld tonometers to ensure IOP accuracy. Building on the underlying technology in the PM1, Occuity’s pipeline of future products includes the AX1, which it says will deliver handheld, non-contact axial-length measurement for myopia screening and monitoring, and further devices to deliver pupillometry and keratometry.
