The optometric arena is expanding with the advances in diagnostic tools and treatment choices that are giving 46,000 US optometrists access to a growing armamentarium of medications and state-of-the-art diagnostic technologies.
This inaugural conference, chaired by Kelly K. Nichols, OD, MPH, PhD, FAAO, dean of the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry, and A. Paul Chous, MA, OD, FAAO, a diabetes eye care specialist in Tacoma, WA, will give optometrists access to top optometry experts who will share clinical insight and advances in eye care with conference participants interested in updating their diagnostic, monitoring, and disease management skills.
Over the 2-day event, the topics covered will include using artificial intelligence to identify and stage ocular diseases; optimizing optical coherence tomography, and other imaging technologies; the latest strategies for managing glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetes, and ocular surface disease; contact lens innovations, myopia control, emerging pharmacologic therapies for presbyopia, advice on promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in your optometry practice; and a preview of anticipated eyecare advances in the upcoming year.
Upon completion of the conference, the participants will be able to recommend diagnostic approaches to identify early presentations of common and rare ocular diseases, apply recent guidelines and other evidence to use for diagnosing and managing patients with ocular conditions, and demonstrate the ability to use emerging clinical trial data to optimize patient treatment in the optometry setting.
